SF193

Landing on subscribers' doorsteps this morning, and available in noise agents from next Thursday, Streetfighters 193 has a trick, katana-influenced nitrous Gixer Thou on the cover, has a full and wholesome seven pages detailing aftermarket bodywork, an awesome 180bhp French vee twn (no, with that power output it can't be called a Harley)loads of other feature bikes and, naturally, all the usual project bike updates...

New Forest Pony Power

On a flying trip down to the south coast, passing through the beauty of the New forest as he went, MDM saw some real horsepower...

Not only was there a goodly variety of tackle on display at Moorespeed Racing, including a nitrous Blade and a very trick R1 in midbuild, but Debben Performance are involved in a ultra-trick alloy-framed, big block beastie amongst an interesting collection of cool Zeds...
More info on MSR in the next ish, and more trick Zeds coming up soon...

Hand-built Duality

Hand-built in Milan, the new concept from CR&S is a two litre, twin cylinder, two seater that is the second member of the CR&S family, and has the unpronounceable name of 'Duu'.

Although, if you ever had an accident on this bike, you'd have to be careful that you didn't leave your knackers behind on that petrol cap...

More details from CR&S

Future Shock!

A glimpse into the future? Or just artistic rederings of science fiction fantasy?
You decide, as far as we're concerned it's just incredibly cool...

In case you wondered, this wondrous work is from the imaginative mind of former Bugatti and Lamborghini designer, Daniel Simon, and the vehicles he's 'created' are all shown in the book 'Cosmic Motors'

Flamer

As mentioned in the Fighterama write-up, the Germans have a knack to making their burnout pit performances as impressive as possible. You'll have read how some have fitted fuel tanks to their front forks, as shown in this picture...

... and this is wants happens when they switch on the pumps that transfers the fuel from the fork tank to the back wheel...

Clocked

One of the uses that we plan to put the blog to is to show pics of bikes that we think show some promise... essentially, it's a kind of digital version of Fanmail, but for bikes that MDM and Will spot on their travels that are of interest, but not quite full feature bikes.
Kicking it off is this funky little GS500 that MDM clocked down at the Exeter Show last August...

Sunday Jumble

Discovered that your mid-winter rebuild requires more parts than you first imagined?
Running short on fasteners?
Fancy spending Sunday rummaging through bike bits?
Then why not head over to the Hudderfield Autojumble, on Sunday 24th January - it kicks off at 10am, at the Old Market Building in Brook Street, Huddersfield, HD1 1RG (that's next to Tesco – and it's signposted). there's due to be over 130 stalls (for those interested in offloading a few parts that they don't need any more, there's drive-in unloading, and plots start at £16). Admission is £2.50, and you can get more info from Penny Farthing Fairs (tel/fax 01773 819154, cell 077955 05388, www.pff-uk.info, mail@pff-uk.info).

More Swollen Glands

Following on from yesterday's Roland Sands video, here's a few pics of the recent Fireblade that he built...

Wednesday 20 January 2010

Yes, even more!

This week we are spoiling you with the moving pictures!
This one stars the person who seems to be the world's favourite bike builder at present, Roland Sands (aka Swollen Glands) alongside the wonderful Brittany Worth...

More Video!

As you may have guessed by now, accustomed as we are to bringing you static pics of lovely motorcycles every month, moving pictures aren't possible in printed media (well, not yet anyway), so our only option is to show videos on this blog and in the 'Streetfighters TV' section of our website.
Today's vid is of a bike we actually featured quite a while ago, Fight Machines 'Stalker 1' FireBlade...

Friday 15 January 2010

Err, yeah, right...

Meanwhile, in another corner of the world, customised sports bikes move down a totally different evolutionary path...

And for those who're thinking that the bikes don't perform...

Suck Squeeze Bang Blow

And if you're not out, larking about in the snow on various car body panels, maybe you're using the valuable spare time blagged off work due to weather conditions to work on your bike. Ever wondered what goes on inside the combustion chamber? See here:-

Snowed Off Two Wheels? Use a Bonnet!

Nice to see that the cream of UK stunting doesn't let a bit of snow interfere with their fun and frolics...

Budget Builds?

Now here's a good idea!
We've heard a great number of people whining about how there's all these people who spend endless thousands of pounds on their streetfighters, and in doing so outclass those of us who haven't got as much spare folding. Of course, a quality streetfighter isn't built simply by having a fat wallet, there's far more to it than that. But, if you're one of those who think that a full-on build is going to require a bank heist or a second mortgage, how about building a bike to compete with Paul Bainbridge?
Now, while Paul built the single-sided (front and back) Blade that was on the cover of SF189, we're not referring to that bike.
Paul and his goodly chum Andy Glover (he of the supercharged Spondon Gixer) have put their heads together and come up with a challenge:-
100cc streetfighter challenge - the 'Squeaker Fighter.'
1. The bike must be road legal. Competition bikes registered for the road are NOT allowed.
2. Capacity is limited to 100cc two strokes, 125cc four strokes or air-cooled 250cc four stroke twins. Tuning is unlimited (within capacity regs), so turbos, superchargers and nitrous are allowed!
3. Anything goes with respect to frames, wheels, brakes etc!
The challenge will revolve around 0-40mph times, braking 40-0mph times and an open road run!
The plan is to inject a bit of fun and adventure into streetfightering!
So, get Squeaking!

Justice is done! Stunt rider cleared.

So Judge Onions is not only in possession of a fantastic name, but evidently also a great deal of common sense, we feel. Nice one Mr Onions and well done Barry. Click the title to read the story.

Chapel Hat Pegs?

Our thanks go to Baz at Lightning Services for this pic (one of many), that was apparently taken outside their workshop this morning...

Wot No Calendar

As our resident mail monitor and tea Tzar Paula was somewhat disappointed that we didn't do a freebie calendar for this year, she applied a bit of lateral thinking and made her own!

The curling of the pages is due to the fact that the 'new' calendar lives above the kettle...

Weather Hits G-Mex

The recent spate of blizzards and freezing temperatures has taken its toll on the National Motorcycle Show at Manchester's G-Mex, due to run this weekend, the 9th and 10th January.
Because so many dealers and exhibitors have been snowed in, the organisers have regretably had to cancel the show.

NEC Extra!

Given that the Carole Nash International Motorcycle & Scooter Show 2009 (aka the NEC) show reportis in the current issue of the magazine, we feel that now is a suitable time to add a few pics from that very show, as we didn't have enough space in the mag to show you all the things we liked... or didn't.

Dodge's supercharged Hayabusa wheelie bike.

I can see a couple of things for which gravity doesn't apply...

Rob's glorious Drouin supercharged Zed.

I find the Hyde Harrier deeply desirable.

She likes the length.

A lovely new Zed Thou. Yes, it is brown, and yes it has got a snakeskin effect seat. Lovely.

The BMW Concept 6, being spied on.

Suzuki began their celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the GSX-R a bit early.

Norton's great hope, and their unfeasibly expensive wrist watch. Why?

And, finally, the gloriously loony Paul Wilkinson and his equally barking new friend.

Fighting Talk 193

The word ‘paradigm’ means ‘benchmark’. It is a standard that is set at a certain level and is based on available fact. It is the yardstick for comparison, and the target at which competitors must aim. And a paradigm shift occurs when that benchmark is suddenly, and drastically, raised.

Here at Streetfighters, we’re privileged enough to see the best of the world’s modified performance motorcycles on a daily basis. Between our sister magazine BSH and ourselves, we like to think that we cover the best variety of custom bike specials, certainly from the UK, and also from elsewhere around the globe. But even then, there’s a benchmark. There’s a level that is rarely touched, let alone passed, except in fevered imaginations and in scribbled sketches on the backs of beer mats. Sure, we see original ideas all the time, and almost every issue sees us cover new concepts in design, engineering and styling, but since I’ve been at the magazine (nearly a decade, it feels like longer, I remember when this were all fields, etcetera), never has a project broken the mould quite so comprehensively as this month’s cover and centrespread bike, Paul Wilkinson’s turbocharged and supercharged VTR.

Kings Kenny's Back!

And on the bike that created the legend!
This short video says it all, and also shows why the Yamaha R1 that we featured in issue 191 is so very, very cool...

New Year, New Decade...

After two full weeks out of the office, MDM and Will are back in front of a PC and frantically typing away to get some features in the bag for SF193.
Okay, so in reality we're rubbing the crust away from our eyelids, imbibing as much ultra-strong coffee as Paula (the office assistant and Brew Magnate) will make us, and plodding through dreary emails asking us where to buy Renthal bars and how to increase the size of our manhood...
Same as last year then...
